DAY 2-MILE MARKER 582.0-MILES TRAVELED 114.8

Friday, September 18, 2009

We left the marina at 7:15. The sun was coming up and there was wispy fog over the water. Quite cool and we all were bundled up in sweatshirts. By the end of the day though, it was hot. Lots of pelicans and eagles. A very scenic part of the Mississippi. The river continues to widen. Nancy drove the boat through her first lock and passed her first tow!!! Teri drove the boat for the first time and also passed her first tow!!! We celebrated later with champagne given us by the friendly staff of Lonsdale Family Dental Clinic. Today we tried rotating on 2 hours shifts. Worked well. Arrived in Dubuque, Iowa around 4 p.m

DAY 1-MILE MARKER 696.8-95 MILES TRAVELED

Thursday, September 17, 2009

The day has arrived!!! After all the planning and preparing, Ross put up the AGLACA burgee around 6:45 a.m. Shortly after, Larry Lindboe came over and helped us cast off. We started the Great Loop at 7:40 a.m. An absolutely gorgeous morning. The water was like glass and not a cloud in the sky. Cool, comfortable weather. Leaves are starting to show color. We cruised at 20 mph for most of the trip and drove right in to every lock. We went through 5 locks today. Arrived in LaCrosse at Pettibone Marina at 3:40. Nice little marina off the channel

Wednesday, September 16, 2009

We unloaded the last of the “stuff” on the boat and started the chore of trying to find places for all of it. Teri and Brad Swingdorf arrived shortly after us with even more stuff. We’ll be eating like kings for sure. Larry and Lori Lindboe stopped by to tell us good-bye and brought us a delicious apple crisp made with apples we brought them from our tree. It was so good we ate almost the entire pan tonight. Oink! But worth it. Put some of our stuff away and hit the sack.

Friday, September 11, 2009 Bon Voyage Party

Our good friends on J-Dock, along with a few honorary J-Dockers, hosted a Bon Voyage party for us. Lots of laughter, kind words, a few tears and as always…….great food! We will miss all of you while we are away, but will spread stories of J-Dock up and down the river!!!!

We are tired of planning and are anxious to go. We will probably realize how much we have forgotten before even getting to the second no wake zone. We appreciate all the advice and encouragement from our friends and family.
