THURSDAY AUGUST 12TH

We woke to the sound of rain and the rumble of thunder. We scrambled outside to close up the canvas. And just in the knick of time. It poured buckets!!! We only got the rain, but on the other side of the Bay, near D.C., there was high wind and lots of damage.

After the rains, the sky cleared and it turned out to be a nice day. Ross dropped the dinghy in the water and we took a cruise around the harbor. We stopped at The Sailing Emporium. Pretty fancy name, eh?

They had a neat gift shop and these lovely benches outside the building. If any one is handy with cutting metal and welding, let me know! I’d like one of each, please.

The town has interesting little shops, but most seem open only on the weekends. We heard music and walked down a garden path alleyway. It lead us to many little brightly painted buildings. Some were shops. Some were eateries.

Tomorrow the Pirates and Wenches Fantasy Weekend starts. Lots of re-enactments, drinking, music, and partying. The town is filled with pirate flags. The locals seem to get in to it. Their yards are decorated for the event, right down to pink flamingos and fountain statues wearing eye patches. Argggh.
Our waitress at Waterman's.

She told us that Waterman's sponsors the Buccaneer Ball which is Saturday night. She said by the time the pirates arrive there, it's chaos. (I can imagine) Chaos is probably not even the word for it.

They have a parade on one of the days. These are two of the floats. One of the "creators" of the airplane was there and said the nose cone was the old weber grill at the marina.

I think the parade takes place on the water. Too bad we can’t stay for it. I would have gotten some pictures!
